Re: 204 pistol
 WoW ! I did do some additional research since my last posting. . . . as the Bullberry page indicated, tests conducted indoors had "interesting" results with muzzle blast! :D :( Little to no "true" accuracy at long range.....as expected. But, it can be fun to shoot as Hotsho...

Re: 204 pistol
The ad was in a NRA magizine from 2005. . . I didn't keep it (for some stupid reason). :( It was a 7 or 8 inch bull barrel with a standard bolt action. It was marketed for match or competition. I do realize that the abilities of the caliber would be dramitically impacted. . . .but my thought w...

204 pistol
I've been looking for a pistol chambered in .204
I had seen an ad in an NRA Rifleman magizine for a Ruger .204 Mark ? pistol. Since then, I haven't been able to find it again.
I would love to add this to my collection and hunting equipment box for trap lines.
Help Please.

Re: open reed call protection
A college friend and I went out hunting the other night. . . . we set up in an old dairy barn at the farm where we expected to see El coyote! He had killed a doe the night before, and we used the hide and head as a drag to our location and set the ribcage out for extra lure. :D We got set in the win...

WOW !
I have learned a good bit from ya'll ! Thanks for the input! I think I'll wait a while to see if Savage picks up the 17fb. I had my share of guns. . . but savage rifles are my favorite so far.
Thanks again!

17 Fireball
I was looking at buying a .17 for general plinking and small game hunting. I had set on a HMR. . . .until I spotted a Fireball  :D Does anyone have experience with this caliber? What issues exist with chamber pressures and barrel ware? When will Savage get this caliber? Too may questions. . . a...

open reed call protection
I recently found a "family pack" of Quaker Boy open reed howlers on sale. This is the first set of open reed calls I own, and immediately was concerned about the plastic reed getting damaged in my field pack. Are there any effective methods for keeping the reed from damage during transit a...

Re: 204 vs cougar
My secondary firearm when I coyote hunt is a .45 ACP Stainless Springfield Armory 1911A1. When the furry little buggers sneak in behind me. . . . :007: I've never hunted cougar. I do believe in ethical hunting with the appropriate weapon. But, I've also shot squirrel with a 20ga #6 shot at close ran...

Re: 204 vs cougar
The way that I look at it. . . if I'm hunting an animal (where legal) to use rimfire ammo, and said ammo is effective at the average range that I intend to encounter the animal, then why not use said ammo. Check the ballistics of your calibers .22, .22 mag, .204. . . . . .338 lapua and research the ...

I have shot ground hogs in the ear before. . . from as close as 6 feet away to 175 yds. BUTGlen wrote:Shot in the ear??
there was an exit hole like you wouldn't believe.
I think creekwalkr has some pics of his ghog shot at 6ft. Massive damage!! He was using a 40 gr vmax.

Leupold has some nice illuminated scopes. good magnification and illumination for $800 some odd. As soon as I get my last kidney sold and my two smallest toes. . . then I'll buy one for myself.
But. . . ya can't beat the quality. Good shooting for low light.

Re: Hornady 45 grainers
I shoot a Savage model 12 single shot It shoots the 32s good, the 40's better. . . . but when it comes down to bone crushing penetration with drop in tracks results. . . 45 grain Horady SP. I'll cover the 32's with a dime, the 40's with a nickel. I have not tried to group the 45's but I can hit a qu...

Re: Is the 32 gr. v-max enough for coyotes?
I personally like to use 40 or 45 gr Hornady factory ammo and do head shots when close (100yds or less) and when possible....sometimes they're moving too much for such a shot. I have found that the 40 and 45 do better at penetration with less of a splash shot (especially the 45gr SP). that sp does g...
