Re: Rem SPS varmint
I picked one up a few years ago, and have been very happy with it. I shoot the 39gr blitzking, RL-10X, hornady brass, 205M primers. From a clean barrel the first 5 shots form a very small ragged hole. After it gets a little dirty, the groups open up to 8-9 mm for the rest of the day. Accuracy was gr...

Re: I'm not gonna complain, but....
Actually, my worst groups from my current load measure around 1/2". From a clean barrel, the first three shots I take will go into the same hole at 100 yards. The first time I did this, a friend was spotting for me, and said "you only hit the target once, I can't see the other shots"....

I have an SPS varmint, and I get very little copper fouling.

Re: Quick Clips
Thanks, I may have to try your setup. We will be transporting our gear with ATVs, so I don't want the legs dropping off in some random locations. Thanks once again.

Quick Clips
I remember seeing a shooting table someone made that attached the pipe legs via something called a "quick clip". I don't remember the exact name, so I hope this will jog a memory or two. These were pipe clamps that were screwed into the underside of the table, and allowed the pipes (legs) ...

Re: Let's Talk Triggers
For the remington 700, I'd go with the Jewell trigger. I have one on my .204 and its wonderful. It comes with 3 different springs, so the pull weight can be adjusted down to 2 oz if you want. I have mine set at 7-8 oz, and for PD blasting that seems fine to me. The really nice aspect of the Jewell i...

Re: Lee neck resizer
You can increase the neck tension by polishing the mandrel from the die, or you can buy one from Lee that has been polished down for $5. I just did this on my .204 die, and its very easy. 1) Take the die apart, and remove the mandrel from the holder. From the factory, they are designed to provide 0....

Re: Rem 700 new/old bolt with lock
The new remington rifles don't have this stupid J-lock shroud. I bought a 700 SPS Varmint last year, and it has a "normal" bolt shroud.

Re: Rem 700 new/old bolt with lock
Holland also makes a complete assembly that will drop in (firing pin, shroud, spring, etc). I got rid of the J-lock with this assembly. I chose the Holland because it had the same bead blasted stainless finish that my action does. If you disassemble the bolt, you will see that (at least on my 7mm Re...

Re: 700 trigger adjustment
I just tuned up an older style 700 trigger. I was able to get the gunk off all three screws with acetone. I found that my sear screw would turn VERY easily once the junk was off, so much so that when I was adjusting the pull weight, the sear screw would move around without me touching it. If your sc...

Re: See if this gets you fired up!
They have been pushing this crap for years. I heard Chuckie Shooomur say that the supply of firearms in the US could last for 100 years, even if they banned them all. He went on to say that on the shelves there is only a 1-2 year supply of ammunition, so that is where they should concentrate their e...

Wind Drift Comparison
In the spirit of a comparison post, such as the trajectory comparison by Wrzwaldo, I have computed the wind drift at 400 yards caused by a 10 mph cross wind. All the calculations were carried out with the PointBlank ballistics program at 5000 ft, 70 degrees. I used the published ballistic coefficien...

Re: Rem SPS .204 Varmint??
I picked one up earlier this year. I topped it off with a Burris 6.5-20X FFII (AO), and Leupold rings and bases. As most people have found, the factory Hornady ammo shoots great, in both the 32 and 40 gr versions (under .5" at 100 yards). I have been working up loads with both Reloder 10x, and ...

Re: stock painting
Verminator - I really like the look of your Dad's stock. Did he use a stencil to get that effect? I want to redo my shotgun with a pattern like that. Also, do you need to coat the Krylon with some clear, flat for durability? I also like the tan with black webbing. Thanks.
