Re: Anyone accurately tested the effects of seating depth
With my rem 700, I can't reach the lands (not without basically zero neck grip). I have tried many seating depths varying from factory to 2.355. All shot good in my gun. I finally settled on 2.300 just because I shot the best group of my life with it.

Re: Full length vs neck sizing
I forgot to say one more thing. You are right, you can only neck size ~2-3 times with the #1 before having to FL size.

Re: Full length vs neck sizing
I too have a Ruger #1 (22-250). With factory loads, it shot terrible (2" groups were the norm). I floated the barrel. That stopped the group stringer but still didnt shoot great groups with factory ammo (V-maxes). I started reloading and only neck sized...........bingo. The gun is a tack driver...

Re: Full length vs neck sizing
If you're shooting a bolt, neck size. I use the Lee Collet die. It is about the easiest die to use. Ocassionally, I get legit 1 hole 3 shot groups from my Rem 700 in 204 (which is pretty much stock).

Re: Which 20 cal.
Don't forget the 5/35SMC. Case availability is a big question though.

Re: Varget and 39g SBK's
So does everyone here load over the suggested max for H4895 and the 39g SBK's? It sure seems that way.

Varget and 39g SBK's
Has anyone tried Varget and the 39g SBK's? One of my "good" loads for my 204 is 26.2g of H4895 and a 40g V-max. I tried the same amount of H4895 with the 39g SBK and got less velocity (judging from wind drift at 100 yards). Can I get more velocity with H4895 or Varget with the 39g Sierras?...

17 Remington Reloading
I currently reload a 204 and a 22-250. I use H4895 and Varget respectively. Would either of these powders work for the 17 Remington? I have read conflicting reloading data from Hodgdon and Hornady on the use of Varget (regarding velocities). I am planning on using the 25g Vmax. Is there anyone out t...

Re: 204 Feeding Problems / Case Marks
I decided to bring it in to a gunsmith. He is going to remove the barrel and do some work on the chamber. This gun never did load ammo right. He thought he could get it perfect.

Re: 204 Feeding Problems / Case Marks
That is EXACTLY how my cases look. Do you think I should polish the chamber myself or bring it to someone? I have read VarmintAl's procedure; it sounds pretty easy.

Re: good suggestions to start reloading
I asked the same questions when I started reloading. I would suggest 39g Blitzkings, H4895, CCI BR Primers (a little pricey). Amount of powder: start 10% below stated max and work up from there. Barrel weight is not a factor. Now, having said that, my load is: 40g V-max 26.2grains of H4895 CCI BR Pr...

204 Feeding Problems / Case Marks
I bought a Rem 700 SPS Varmint last winter. I fired 200 factory loads through it with minimal feeding problems. I ran into feeding problems with once fired cases. I could load and fire a factory load with no problem, eject that case, load that case and close the bolt. When I would close the bolt, th...
