Rem 700 LV SF in 204

Anybody have any experience with these? Looks like a nice light and relatively inexpensive gun. Curious how long the chambers run. the idea being that I could share load specs with my Sako if necessary.

Re: Second, maybe Third varmint gun

It just hit me that my little plinker could/should be a .204 just in a different gun! Duh... Closeout on Rem 700 LVSF if I can find one would make a nice light gun. Had a suggestion for a closeout XR100 in 22-250 (rebarrel later as 260) The Sako VLSS in 260 is not imported to US so I might look for ...

Re: Second, maybe Third varmint gun

Rick,

On the 260 Improved would it be a mistake to start with a Sako in 260 Rem? Not sure I could find one, but they make them...

jo,

If the mini can match my 10-22 it'll do. Just thinking out loud on the mini

Re: Second, maybe Third varmint gun

Rick,

Could you point me to this article. There's just so many different areas over there.

I like where this is going though. A little-big gun and then a small knock around like maybe a mini-14 or something for slogging thru the woods...

Re: Second, maybe Third varmint gun

Someday the Sako 85 Varmints are going to come. That is what I'm waiting for. Need another in 204. One is just not enough for colony shooting. I will compliment my 75 blue with the 85 in stainless. OK, I'm scratching my head here. I thought mine was a 85 stainless 204. I don't think it's a 75. Or w...

Second, maybe Third varmint gun

OK, I have 3 already, but looking to add one or two more. At present I have a Sako Varmint in 204 just like Rick's, a 10/22, and a Mark III. I had a Howa 22-250 and have it sold. I love my Sako and am tempted to buy another in a different caliber, but I really don't care for having 2 of the same ide...

Re: Shooting benches

I have a BR Pivot Lite and love it. Keep an allen wrench in your kit to retorque the table top as needed. As for stabilizing the vehicle, I'd suggest pipe mount trailer jacks as they are easily removed and adjusted to accomodate rough terrain and vary the load. Remember if the soil is anywhere near ...

Mark III Volquartsen accurizing kit questions

I'm new to pistols, but would assume that a good pistol trigger should function like a rifle trigger and have no pre-travel. I have the VQ kit installed in my MKIII, but when I adjust the pre travel to where I like it, it will not "cock" after being cycled. If I back out the pre-travel scr...

Couple of novice questions:

1) How do we figured muzzle velocity versus chrono 10' from muzzle?

2) How do turret clicks compare to syd elevation dial clicks?

3) Why do some bullet mfrs simply state BC yet sierra varies theirs based on muzzle velocity?

More info on Sunday's session

I can shoot 5 inside a dime very consistently with my 204 now. Pretty decent groups, and seldom any bad fliers. The 22-250 is more like a nickel with the best load, but is frequently plagued by flyers 3/4 to 1" away. Looking to pick up a manual powder scale to cross check my RCBS chargemaster. ...

Will try the Fed 205's Just looking over the targets here and maybe I'm being overly critical of the Howa. The Sako 204 can reliably put 5 shot groups together that will cover with a dime. The Howa has done some nickel and dime size groups, BUT is almost always plagued by a single flyer often 3/4 to...

Velocity Questions

I have a question regarding velocity. I realize that accuracy is more important than velocity in most cases, but I've been puzzled with my findings. I also realize that powder can vary from lot to lot and barrel length is said to have some effect, but I believe I read it to be quite insignificant wi...
