Those .257 Wby targets were long ago in my mis-spent youth. About the same time we had to use a 4' cheater bar to open the bolt on the same Weatherby with heavier loads. I survived, and so did the rifle, but sorry, no photos of any of it back then... Seriously though - a fragile bullet - like many &...

"Vaporizing bullets? I'd love to see that." Fairly common when fragile bullets are pushed hard, from a fast-twist barrel. See it now and again at long-range prone matches, where the guys have their rifles set up with fast-twist barrels to stabilize long bullets. Just a little puff of smoke...

Good tips. I like those little "lens pens" sold in most gunshops. Easy to just stick it in your pocket. Also am a big believer in lens caps - have the Butler Creek flip-up jobs on most of my rifles, and the threaded screw in type on one scope. Completely understand about not wanting to use...

I believe Leupold makes an illuminated 1.5-5x scope.

Classic .22's

I know there's got to be some guys using older, classic .22 match rifles. I still practice with, and occasionally hunt with, this old Winchester 52-B, complete with the equally classic 20x Lyman target scope. Dad & Grandpa used it in competition, it's been in our family 50+ years and is still mi...

I'll second that point about bullet placement. You can kill game with any number of different cartridges and bullets, as long as you hit your quarry well. Am a big fan of the 7mm Rem mag. I've had bigger, badder rifles, but the 7mm Rem mag with 175's or 160's will dump an elk just fine. I find the 7...

Rented sea kayaks, then paddled, camped and fished for a week in Barclay sound near Tofino, Vancouver Island. It was absolutely outstanding! Fresh salmon, ling cod, black rockfish & crabs every night! :D Caught 'em all ourselves. Have also enjoyed outstanding trout fishing along the Blackwater r...

I've used USO and Leupold illuminated reticle scopes. Often in fading light, conditions are such that the animal can still be seen, at least silhouetted, but standard crosshairs fade out and can't be seen. An illuminated reticle takes care of that. Very important that the reticle can be illuminated ...

A few years back I zapped the biggest coyote I've ever taken. Don't know what it weighed, but it measured a full 60" from nose to tail. Heavy sucker to haul out to the truck though... :D I suspect somewhere around 50# or so. http://www.hunt101.com/img/313769.jpg That's a 7mm Rem mag Sendero on ...

Both of those Rugers are great! I remember when the Number One rifles often came with really nice walnut like that. Somewhere along the line I got silly and sold my two Ruger single shots, a .25-06 varminter and a .300 Win mag. Both were good guns, the .25-06 was really very accurate! Thanks for sho...
