Re: 2007 deer with 204 update!
Well I'll be darned. That's a mighty little bullet for killing deer. Still, I killed a buck with one shot from a .223 AR-15, with a mere 55 grain soft point. Not something I'd advocate as a general purpose deer rifle, but it certainly worked. Seems that your .204 stepped up and handled the does just...

Re: CZ - keep it or trade it?
Good thoughts guys - I think I'm going to keep it - at least for now. It's very light and easy to carry, which is nice when hiking in on snowshoes for coyotes. Got some good advice from a real CZ nut case (aka "enthusiast' :D ) about free-floating the barrel & bedding the action. Might also...

Re: .300 Rem Ultra Mag - report
Interestingly enough - I ended up selling that .300 RUM off and buying a very accurate .300 WSM that is more to my liking.
Still have a tremendous respect for the .300 RUM though - it's one heck of a long-range cartridge. More cartridge than I needed or wanted I guess.
Regards, Guy

Re: AR-15 Platform Question
Only reason I can come up with for choosing the .223 is if you were shooting NRA Highpower competition.
Otherwise - the .204 is one sweet little cartridge! I've never shot an AR-15 in .204 - that might be a real neat setup...

CZ - keep it or trade it?
Bought this little rifle early last year. A little CZ .204 with a pretty maple stock. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k129/GuyMiner/hunting%20photos/CZ-08.jpg Have it setup with a 4-12x Leupold. It shoots good, but not great. Consistently under MOA with 40 grain A-Max Hornady factory ammo, or with...

Re: preventing runout
My arbor press is by RWH, nice piece of gear. I use it with Wilson dies for the .204, .25-06 and .308 Winchester. Use it for both neck sizing and seating. Those Wilson dies are great for minimizing runout!

Re: Savage F Class Rifle
They are a great value. A friend and shooting buddy of mine took one to Raton New Mexico and shot in the F class championships there. His was the .308 version and he shot in F/TR. With his factory built $900 rifle - he took second place. I am impressed! The .308 and the 6.5-284 are both good cartrid...

Re: Pretty Young Buck
I'd guess he's a 3.5 year old. Like you say, the antlers are a little thin - but great, classic mulie configuration! Add some weight to the buck and some girth to his antlers and you're going to be looking at a real solid trophy class buck in a year or two.

Re: Barrel Quality????
Critter, the "varmint" models like Rick's seem to perform better than the standard models. I've heard that this is largely because of the scope mounting system, which is much different from the "quarter rib" found on the standard rifles. I've had two Ruger Number One rifles - and...

Re: Wyoming mulie
Sorry - yes, he's a 4x4 plus eyeguards, about 16 - 17" wide and 24+ inches tall. Nailed him with a .25-06 Rem 700 CDL, which has become my favorite deer rifle. Load was a 100 grain Barnes TSX loaded to 3340 fps mv. I used H4350, Winchester brass and Federal 210 match primers. Put the loads toge...

Wyoming mulie
http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k129/GuyMiner/hunting%20photos/Wyobuck02.jpg With the help of some very gracious people who allowed me to hunt their property, I was able to take this tall Wyoming mulie. Wasn't sure the hunt was even going to happen. My guided hunt with the outfitter fell through,...
