That's a .25-06 Rem 700 CDL with a 6x Leupold. Load was a 115 grain Berger VLD over a max charge of Retumbo for 3200 fps muzzle velocity. This is the first year I've hunted with Berger VLD bullets. They're interesting. Accurate. The VLD design also makes them good over long distance and through wind...
Hunted some rough country this morning, but it paid off. Shot this buck at about 10:30 this morning, and with help from my son and a good friend, got him cut up and back to the truck by 8:00 PM. It was a long tough day, but I tagged a good one. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k129/GuyMiner/hunting...
I didn't make the rug. My last contribution to the rug was taking the coyote to the taxidermist. Yedinak made him into a good looking rug. My skinning jobs aren't usually too good, and I wanted a nice rug for my son's room. :D Yes, I do enjoy living here - and doggone it - I haven't scored on a deer...
Sixshooter - quite a deal. I shot a nice size bull at about 180 yards with my 7mm Rem mag, using a handloaded 175 gr Nosler Partition at about 2900 fps mv. He took a few walking steps, like four or five, and fell over, dead as a doornail. The bullet penetrated completely, so I have no recovered bull...
Ray P, I read a lot of info on hunting with the Berger VLD's last year and decided to give them a try, as I'd seen good accuracy in a match grade .308 with them. One of the rifles I wanted to try them in was this .25-06 Rem 700 CDL. I figured with their high BC and good accuracy, they might be a goo...
Made a rug out of my biggest coyote - measures 60" from tip of nose to tip of tail. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k129/GuyMiner/hunting%20photos/95399e7b.jpg Whacked another one today with a 115 grain Berger VLD from my .25-06 Remington 700 CDL. Shot was at 154 yards, offhand. Silly coyote ...
Weather is finally warming up here in central Washington. Snowed twice in April which put a damper on hunting our local rockchuck population so I haven't been out much with the varmint rifles. Glad your new rifle is working so well!
acloco - Yup. I brought home a big ol' 6x6 elk rack and nearly 300 pounds of meat from a hunt in Wyoming several years back. Wife was used to venison, but truly didn't like most of the elk. I dunno why, the boys and I thought it tasted great. :D Anyway, I'm not real interested in filling the freezer...
This year I've got bear, deer and cougar tags for Washington again. Bumping into a cougar while I'm out is kind of unlikely, but it's happened before. I like to have the tag in my pocket just in case. No real big hunting plans this year; mule deer here in Washington with friends & family. We hav...
