Re: Berger Bullets email Tech Info Available
Agree. They're really trying hard to answer questions about loading and using their bullets. I've had success both on the target range and in the field with their VLD's. Good bullets and they've been very helpful about providing load data. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k129/GuyMiner/hunting%20ph...

Re: Need a new rifle
Why do you need a heavy barrel for 400 yard shots on deer or coyotes? Not necessary for accuracy, unless you're planning on long strings of fire. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k129/GuyMiner/hunting%20photos/1e1841e8.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k129/GuyMiner/hunting%20photos/612eee71.jp...

Re: Number One!
Well, for accuracy testing, I swapped out the scope in favor of a 4.5-14x Leupold, and took it to the range with some factory loaded 150 grain Remington ammo. Here's the first group at 300 yards: http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k129/GuyMiner/hunting%20photos/equipment/IMG_0867.jpg Not stellar, but...

I'll bet that's a sweet handling, good looking rifle. I'd be tempted to try something around 140 grains, and not push it all that hard. Should make a dandy general purpose deer rifle!
Can you post a photo of it?

Re: Verms .280 AI load work up
So, you're getting very good accuracy with a good 140 grain bullet at about 2800 - 2900 fps? Looks like the load is about worked up and ready to hunt! :D I used to tinker incessantly with my loads, trying to shave the last quarter inch off the groups or wring that last 25 fps out of them, but now I ...

Re: Anyone ever seen the "Best of the West" hunting show?
That Berger VLD apparently makes a pretty good hunting bullet if a guy puts it in the chest cavity, where it belongs. I'd used 'em for target shooting with excellent results, then a couple of years ago I started hearing about using them for hunting and my ears perked up a little. I did some digging ...

"Don't disparage the Governor's Auction Tag, and the similar ones that the other states have. They do add a sizable chunk of money to the budgets of most states cash strapped Fish and Game agencies." Agree. As long as the state holds it to a very few tags like that - they can raise a lot o...

Number One!
Not my first Ruger Number One, but just got this one today. It's an early 1980's 7mm Rem mag, and it shoots pretty well too: http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k129/GuyMiner/hunting%20photos/equipment/IMG_0833.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k129/GuyMiner/hunting%20photos/equipment/IMG_0831.jpg...

Re: Mt. Lion Encounter in Oregon (Pics)
The tourist town of Leavenworth Washington is just up the road from my place, and cougars are often seen in or near town. The gal I mentioned shot one on her back porch. A couple of Sheriff's deputies arrived at a 911 call, the homeowner had come home to find a cougar in his garage, eating his boxer...
