"Faster twist barrels & heavier bullets with high BC's is what put the 223 where it is today in highpower competition..."
No kidding Jim. I remember when the little AR-15 was considered a joke by the Highpower guys... Not anymore!

Re: First time groundhog shooting, tips please!
Good thing you stopped here for advice! A full ghillie suit like snipers use is perfect, but if you don't have one, as much camo as possible so that you'll blend in with the surrounding terrain is good. Don't forget to camo your face, shiny faces really stand out and groundhogs have surprisingly goo...

Re: Springtime Fun w/Skippy Pt II (Pics)
My high-school age son was grinning from ear to ear while looking through the photos of your Skippy Shoot. We've got rockchucks here, and he lays waste to 'em with his 6mm Rem or the .22, but a half-dozen in a day is a big take... Seeing and shooting dozens, or hundreds, of little sage rats is somet...

"That's true, the 204 "factory" rounds are indeed higher velocity. However, one will never get a handload to meet, much less out do factory 204 velocities." Have to disagree Frank. Ran some 40 gr Hornady factory loads through my CZ for 3741 fps. Ran my handloads w/same bullet, sa...

Re: Rock chucks meet the Marlin!
You guys on this forum got me all fired up about varmint shooting a couple of years ago... I'd gone through times when high velocity hollow points splattering little critters were at the top of my list, and then the enthusiasm for it faded. Now it's all your fault (all of ya!) for getting me all wor...

Rock chucks meet the Marlin!
Saw two, shot same! :D Both at 60 - 70 yards from unsupported sitting with the little Marlin 39A and the 6x Leupold. Used good old 38 gr Federal American Eagle hollow point ammo. That stuff shoots great from the Marlin! http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k129/GuyMiner/hunting%20photos/IMG_1098.jpg ht...

CZ range report
The new .204 CZ varminter and I had our first date at the range this morning, and we both came away satisfied! :D On Mondays the longer ranges at my gun club are closed, so I could only get to 200 yards, but as I hadn't sighted it in yet, or even shot it, that was fine. A quick bore-sight the old fa...

Re: What Does A $1 Million Deer Look Like
I dunno. Am not much on pen-raised deer, and the rack, although big, looks more grotesque than impressive... JMHO. Normally I kind of like non-typical racks, but not this one... Despite the size.
Bottom line though - if I was hunting and saw him out in the wild... Would I shoot him? Yes, of course.

Re: GROUP SIZE
I like those Ruger Number One rifles. Glad yours is shooting so well! I've had a couple of others in the past, but my current one is a 7mm Rem mag - and I'm not shooting itty bitty groups like you are, but it's not doing at all badly! I've often thought about getting one in .204 or some other varmin...

Re: 204 at 600 yards?
Just did a quick calculation w/a web based program: 32 gr Sierra @ 3800 fps = 55" wind drift in a 10 mph crosswind at 600 yards 168 gr Sierra .30 cal @ 2700 fps = 34" wind drift in 10 mph wind at 600 yards The relatively poor BC of the stubby little bullets hurts them at longer ranges in a...

I haven't run the numbers, but I'd expect you'll see a LOT of wind drift from the little bullets...

Bighorn.. Yeah, that's a "once in a lifetime" tag here in Washington - and about 5,000:1 odds against ya for the draw... Not likely. Still, I can dream...
