Re: 6mm Remington Light Bullets

JW, I tried the 55gr BT in both my 243 Win and my 243AI. Blistering speeds, but mediocre accuracy. The terminal effect on PD's and squirrels was remarkable as would be assumed though. Worth a try, but doubtful they will become part of a coveted "Pet Load". Your fndings may differ, but tha...

Re: lets talk powder.....

Just looking at my notes now: Rifle is a CZ527 Varmint. Load was Hornady Brass, 39BK/40gr vmax, 25 gr RL10x, CCI BR4 primer. COAL 2.30.. .58" 5 shot 100 yard group averaged a questionable 3860fps. I say questionable as that crony was on its way out and not long after these reading my .222 was ...

Fox Pro?

I'm considering the purchase of an electronic predator call, a Fox Pro. Haven't decided which model. Normally I just use a mouth blown call. But I'm not the most skilled caller. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Any thoughts on the Fox Pro or other predator calls? I'm hoping to attract coyot...

Re: 2021 Father-Son Mule Deer Hunt

Thanks guys. I like this little forum, though I don't visit often. I appreciate that you guys like the whole father-son hunt thing. The young man started hunting with me when he was 10 years old, got his license at 12. He's 30 now... It's been a good run. I'm fading a bit, but we intend to hunt toge...

2021 Father-Son Mule Deer Hunt

October of 2021 my son and I spent four days hunting mule deer in Okanogan County, Washington. He used a 1974 vintage 6mm Remington 700 BDL with a 3.5-10x Leupold and handloaded ammo with a 95 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip at 3117 fps via Ramshot Hunter. I used my 10 - 15 year old 30-06 Remington 700 C...

Re: lets talk powder.....

Thanks! Another fellow told me that he loves H322 in, of all things, his 45-70 Marlin! I hadn't thought of that application at all. According to Hodgdon there are several suitable loads with H322 for the 45-70... Perhaps this pound of powder will go for making Big Holes in the target, instead of lit...

Re: lets talk powder.....

A fellow just gave me a pound of H322. According to Hodgdon, it looks like a good match for the 204 Ruger and a variety of bullet weights.

Anyone here with experience loading H322 in the 204 Ruger?

Thanks, Guy

Re: 204 brass or ammo

Ya, it's a rough time for handloaders & shooters... Sorry, no tips on where to get more ammo or brass. I'm just glad that I'm reasonably well supplied. Whew!

Hope you get that new 204/AR-15 supplied with plenty of good ammo soon. :)

Re: Upland Bird Hunting

Ya, that Sacramento Valley, the hills, and the Sacramento River Delta all offer good bird hunting. Or at least they did when I lived in California. :)

Re: 600 yard 6 Creedmoor Results

What's the distance of your typical shot while hunting? I see you're loading the ELD variety. How's that working out?? Oh, this is a range toy - I could hunt with it I suppose. No real intention of doing so. It's awfully heavy & cumbersome for hunting. I've taken mule deer anywhere from about 2...

Re: Upland Bird Hunting

However... An opportunity to "rescue" a young German Wirehaired Pointer named Maverick came along. :) Whoo Boy! He's a wild one. I've had my hands full with this good boy. Same breed as Clark, but with a completely different coat. He's also more muscular. And did I mention that he's a wild...

Re: Upland Bird Hunting

Sadly, ol' Clark passed of cancer a few months after those photos. He'd been slowing down, but the vet couldn't find anything wrong with him until it was too late. I miss that dog.

Re: Downsides to the 204 for coyotes

My coyote hunting opportunities have grown, so I removed the fixed 12x from my CZ varminter in 204, and replaced it with an under-employed 4.5-14x Leupold.

Have some 35 gr Bergers loaded up and ready to go. Just need to get out there and start looking for coyotes!

Re: 600 yard 6 Creedmoor Results

Guy, I'm curious why the 6mm over the 6.5 Creedmoor. I ask because I find myself asking that question. Also included is the 6x47, 6.5 x47 or the 260 Remington or AI. Hi Jim, sorry I neglected this post for so long and hope you got your new rifle! Why the 6mm? :) It was on sale at Sportsman's Wareho...
