Re: Winchester brass problems (way too short)
Here's an update to this old thread. Originally the 500 pcs of brass were measuring 1.533" with a stonypoint comparator with the 330 insert. I set up the headspace a little short of saami specs and well short of my go guage. The fired brass come out of the chamber at 1.550" which is quite ...

Re: 204 Barrel Length?
It's gonna depend on the powder and load and bullet and twist and other variables.

Re: 204 Barrel Length?
I don't have a 26" 11 twist barrel with polygonal rifling and even if I did, different powder combinations would test differently. Some might even be slower in the longer barrel theoretically. The 26" barrel will be fine. Pacnor told me to expect 25 fps per inch in velocity increase but I ...

Re: 204 Barrel Length?
Mine is 28" and I have checked the velocity. What do you want to know. I almost always use a chrono. I have had velocities ranging from 3700 to 4250. I have an 11 twist with polygonal rifling. Which of the many bullet and powder combinations are you interested in? I was shooting 35 grain berger...

Re: Neck sizing?
If your old sizing die left considerable runout and the new die leaves very little, then you might realize a gain in accuracy. What have you been using? What did you buy? The problem with neck sizing only is that eventually, you will have to full length size. Trying to keep straight which brass need...

Re: vv133 and the 204 equals easy success
I tried some 40 grain bergers with 25.5 gr. of n133. Accuracy was good but inconsistent. Velocity was around 3960 in hot weather. After 5 loadings with that hot load, the primer pockets were too loose and I had to toss the brass. I was recently warned that the expansion I'm getting in the case head ...

Re: New 204
I followed your advice and just finished trimming 1000 pcs of brass to 1.75 but now they are too short to hold a bullet. What did I do wrong?Hotshot wrote:Whenever you do decide to trim, why stop at 1.83? I hate trimming so I'd go to 1.75 as long as I was doin' it.

Re: Question about brass
I appreciate all of ya'lls input. I'm gonna try a lighter load on Saturday. I think I'll try benchmark too as it worked well with the 35 bergers. Arnold Jewell has been trying to get me to slow it down for a couple of months now but I'm stubborn I guess. We're supposed to spend all day shooting here...

Re: Question about brass
when I full length resize, I have no problem ejecting the case. If I don't it gets sticky after 1 or 2 firings.

hmmm-
now ya'll have me thinking. I'll try some cooler loads, darn it. Thanks, I guess that's why I come here.

Re: Question about brass
hi Rick- I am using 25.5 grains of VV n133. This is a hot load and pushes the 40 grain Bergers at around 3960 fps when temps were around 80 degrees. This is in a 30" polygonal barrel with an 11 twist so it's faster than in shorter barrels with standard rifling. I hate to think about dropping it...

Re: Question about brass
Benchrest competitors full length resize every time they shoot. Most have dies matched to their chambers such that resizing only causes a .0005 change in each dimension. As a result it is possible to shoot one of those cases more than 50 times. Many will discard them after 15 rounds to assure consis...
