Re: First trip to dogtowns this weekend

Thanks y'all. I didn't think of an extra battery for the range finder. I'm thinking 2 or 3 windflags Rick. One up close and one out about 100 and upwind. I'm thinking I've got a lot of weight. Arnold and I will be in the Toyota Prius. I think it will all fit but we'll find out for sure on Friday nig...

First trip to dogtowns this weekend

Well, y'all have convinced me, so this weekend we take off for Colorado for our first prairie dog hunt. I've been prepping for months now. I've built two 204s on Savage target actions with heavy pacnor barrels and Shehane tracker stocks. They're topped by a pair of Zeiss conquest 6.5-20 scopes and b...

Re: 204um Praire Dog Postal Shoot

Congratulations to the shooter of target #20. That rifle is shooting. The load is in tune and the shooter sure knows how to hold to put them all in a hole from the looks of the sighter target. I can't wait for the next one.

Re: 204um Praire Dog Postal Shoot

Jo- do you use wind flags? A typical 6mm bullet experiencing a 10 mph cross wind will deflect 3 1/2" Just a thought.

Re: Leaving in the morning for my 1st prairie dog hunt!

Arnold Jewell and I are going up to CO in a couple of weeks for our first social interaction with Skippy. I'm taking 1500 dance cards and am looking forward to inviting skippy to go for a spin.

Re: 204um Praire Dog Postal Shoot

Well I went out just before dark and shot my target. It was harder than I expected, especially since it was too dark to see where I was hitting. The sighter and tiebreakers were easy to see but the dog was impossible. To make matters worse, I used the wrong bolt in my rifle and got a hang fire on th...

No inside info, just what I was told by Ron Hoehn, Lester Bruno, and the guy from powder valley, along with others.

Re: Powder query

jo191145- Good info with one exception. There is no difference between the federal 205 and the 205m. All they do is make a careful inspection to confirm that there is an anvil in the 205m to insure that there will be no misfires during a match. Calhoun's list shows a thinner cup thickness for the fe...

Re: How to best clean these cases?

Is there something I'm missing? Why spend all that time cleaning brass? The sizing wax protects the die. Is it for looks? We don't do it in benchrest competition. Why do it in varmint guns?

Re: 204um Praire Dog Postal Shoot

If you shoot at 200 is your score halved to compete against those shooting at 100? Are they two different competitions? What distance are people shooting at. I don't want to just shoot against myself.

Re: 204 Ruger SCN Match Reamer Available

Dave is making this reamer right now and will then send it to Pacnor where they are waiting on it to chamber a 11 twist polygonal with a very heavy contour. This will give me a pair of 204s. I am itching to go on my first trip to dog town this spring. I will shoot it at paper plenty as that is what ...

Re: 204 Ruger SCN Match Reamer Available

We hit 92 degrees here today. It is supposed to get down to freezing tomorrow night. Hey ya'll I thought I would add my custom reamer print here for comparison. Thanks for your thread Rick. I love this stuff. Note the tight neck of .228 that requires a slight neck turn to improve accuracy. It also h...

Re: Here's a scary thought

With the cost of lead and copper and the weak dollar, my best investments lately have been bullets. I bought 3000 6mm match bullets in Dec. and in Jan. they went up from 22 to 26 cents each and my 40 grain bergers went from 18 to 23 cents each. That's a heck of a return. Good night ya'll thanks for ...

Re: Here's a scary thought

In the Senate you have to have 60 votes to get anything passed. An angry minority party in the Senate can put a virtual halt to all legislation and appointments. If having both houses and the whitehouse enabled a party to pass anything they wanted, then we would have drilling in ANWR, more restricti...

Re: Here's a scary thought

I'd like to clarify my position on whether the democratic party will push a gun control bill. I didn't mean to imply that it was a matter of the amount of actual time it would take. My wording would indicate that is what I meant. What I actually think is that it would be politically unwise to do so....
