Re: Working up a load to be used elsewhere a pipedream?

".....the variation in temperature and pressure affects the pressure curve within the barrel on ignition and will change the harmonics of the barrel." I don't think it affects the ignition source, as the bullet, brass, powder, & primer...are somewhat sealed, so the air and the pressur...

Re: First PD hunt this weekend

Sounds like you're ready. Leave the spotting scope at home. Take a towel to dip in your cooler water to drape over the barrel or else use mirage shields. Take extra patches and brushes for cleaning. Take some sweet's solvent. The copper will build up quick. Take rope and extra stakes to brace the ez...

Working up a load to be used elsewhere a pipedream?

I do a lot of competition benchrest shooting. We load between matches so we can adjust the load as the environmental conditions change to keep the rifle in tune. The load that works in the morning may be out of tune in the afternoon. It is a story worth telling if a competitor wins a competition aft...

Re: trigger question

Varminter- didn't say that. A knowledgeable gunsmith can operate on it and reduce the creep. Finding one of those is tough.

Re: trigger question

Don't lube your trigger. It will attract dust. Clean with lighter fluid. Never apply lube of any kind. This comes from personal experience and conversations with Arnold Jewell and other benchrest shooters that have made the mistake in the past.

Re: First trip to dogtowns this weekend

As long as I was using two rifles it wasn't too bad but Arnold was having a tough time seeing the dogs with his Leupold so I gave him one of my Zeiss conquest scopes and he started having a ball. I've already replaced it. I called cameralandny.com on the way to the dog town on wednesday and my wife ...

Re: Optic Zone

I ordered my third Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 from cameralandny.com. The price rose to 675 including shipping from the 650 I paid before. I ordered on wednesday morning and it arrived in TX on friday morning. Doug is the man.

Re: Pics of your 204's

Arnold made 10 prototype triggers for the Savage. He didn't put them into production because the Savage actions are not uniform enough to build an aftermarket trigger for with the tolerances that he uses. He says Savage actions are all prototypes. I measured parts inside my actions and they all vari...

Re: Wind & 204 Rugers

http://www.eskimo.com/~jbm/calculations/traj/traj.html This link will provide you with a ballistics calculator that will show the 204 to be superior in wind bucking abilities to many common rounds with heavier bullets. The 32 grains get blown around some but the 39 and 40 grain bullets perform quite...

Re: Pics of your 204's

I'm finally getting around to posting pictures of my 204s. Both are built on the Savage target action. Both are almost as accurate as my competition 6PPC. Both have Pacnor barrels in an 11 twist with polygonal rifling. Both wear Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 scopes and Shehane tracker stocks. The one wit...

Re: First trip to dogtowns this weekend

I'm home after a thoroughly exhausting and wonderful trip to SE CO. It was beautiful and was the definition of a target rich environment. We generally shot one area in the morning and moved to another in the afternoon. The most amazing thing was the performance of my Toyota Prius. Sam left after a c...

Re: First trip to dogtowns this weekend

Holy Moly! Skippy had a terrible day today. I'm exhausted. We wore out two dog towns today. I shot 440 rounds. I'm glad I loaded so many rounds. My longest hit was 466 yards. I had several over 400 but it required a lot of dialing in. Sam hit two at once with a 6br shooting a 65gr vmax and one flew ...

Re: First trip to dogtowns this weekend

We checked it out yesterday after a 13 hour drive. The rancher was great and showed us a number of places on his 10k acres. To bad the season is not yet open on the 20k acres of public land he leases. We're headed out this morning. hehehe I feel like a kid on christmas morning. Pics to follow.

Re: First trip to dogtowns this weekend

Y'all are great. I worked on the rifles this evening and got them packed for the trip. I had to modify one of the bolts and install a bolt lift kit in the other. I modified my farley rest for the trip and bought some more 6mm bullets on sale. sierra 100s and speer 105s for 10 cents apiece. I won't n...
