Re: Optic Zone
Cameraland sells demo models with full factory warranties and you can't tell they didn't come straight from the factory. Price is 675 including shipping. I have purchased three of them from Doug. Arnold Jewell put one on his backup benchrest gun so he could see his bullet holes at 200 through the mi...

Re: Manually cooling a barrel?
Use your ice cold cooler water on a white terry cloth towel. Shift the towel as it dries on the barrel and re-wet it as needed in the cooler. I still cook my barrels though. I can't stop shooting.

Re: Coyote pups
We stumbled upon several fawns this year. One was still wobbly legged which means born within the last hour or so. We walked right up on several others that were just a day or two old. My wife has a birthday on 6-4 so she thinks God gives her fawns for a present each year. I pass a couple of twins e...

Re: 204 Cleaning Questions
The boresnake is a gimmick. Think about it. The first patch or two removes the powder residue. Do you want that covering your boresnake? The brush then mechanically loosens the carbon layer with a chemical designed to cut it. The boreshake has some little brass nubs sticking out of it that are desig...

Hotshot-
From my experience last week, the vmax, the 39sbk and the 40 gr bt Bergers all perform that well at over 400 yards. Blowing the back half off a pd at 400+ just doesn't seem to be much of a trick for a 204.

Re: Removing copper fouling - sharing the info
If you don't use a borescope, you are just guessing about the condition of your bore. On the other hand, if you are winning in competition on a consistent basis, then your method of cleaning is perfect with or without visual confirmation.

Thank God for modern medicine. When something doesn't seem right, go to the doc sooner than later. Get well soon Rick.

Re: Removing copper fouling - sharing the info
I took the chemicals that I had been using and some new ones and got out some old copper pennies. The sweets made the penny turn bright and shiny instantly. All the others took some time. One thing I tried recently on my pd trip was birchwood casey foaming bore scrubber. I had my bore scope along an...

uh I uhm err oh never mind.Hotshot wrote:snip Since I only shoot it at very long range(500-800), I load test and zero this rifle at 300 yards. It produces 1 1/2 in groups at three hundred yards with loads that are 1 1/4 at one hundred. snip

Best wishes Rick. You have taught us much around here. I hope you have all the support you need around there and the best doctors. I hope you are comfortable and make a full recovery without any pesky complications. These things often pass quickly. I've been through a few. Good luck.

Re: First trip to dogtowns this weekend
Those are great terms Rick. I took a big box that held all the ammo. It rode home in the truck. The Prius has a large storage area under the rear deck above the spare tire that held all the empty ammo boxes on the way home. The live rounds rode home in the suitcase and the dirty laundry was crammed ...

Re: Working up a load to be used elsewhere a pipedream?
Good points Heikki There is a widely held misconception about humidity and air density. Humid air is actually less dense than dry air. There is a law that says that a given volume air at a fixed temperature and pressure will contain a set number of molecules. If one type of molecule is introduced in...

Re: Working up a load to be used elsewhere a pipedream?
ray, I think you are over thinking this. I have to admit I have always lived in the same area that I hunt pd's. My objective in a varmint shooting load is to eliminate shots that won't hit the target if I do all other things right. If the kill zone of my target is 2 inches, then a load that will sh...

Yep- a couple of wind flags are very useful. Try shooting upwind and downwind. When they both blow over, it's time to roll up your stuff.
