Re: vv133 and the 204 equals easy success

Well, I backed off on the load from 26.7 to 26.4 grains of vv n133. I trimmed all the brass, which had gotten inconsistent when I wasn't looking. About half the primer pockets have gotten loose after 4 firings but I loaded them up anyway. I took 40 out to the range in New Braunfels. I set up 6 windf...

Re: vv133 and the 204 equals easy success

I thought I had found the sweet load but alas I must keep searching. I loaded up 40 of the 35 bergers with the 26.7 grains of n133. What worked well last week was inconsistent today. I shot 3/4" groups at 150. The speeds were really fast too. I tried both 205m and cci br4 primers. There seemed ...

Re: Boresnakes

I have heard it said and agree that the best way to use a bore snake is to stretch it out at arms length and drop it in the trash can. They are ineffective as shown by a borescope and will lead to a buildup of carbon and copper in the barrel. Several hundred rounds later the conclusion is sometimes ...

Re: vv133 and the 204 equals easy success

jo91145- I measure the 35 gr. berger at .604 in length. I measure the base to the shoulder/neck junction at 1.672. If I seated the bullet to the bottom of the neck, I would have a total length of 2.276. If I load to touch the lands, I have a total length of 2.207. That means my bullet base is .069 i...

Re: vv133 and the 204 equals easy success

jo191145- This is the same one. It took me a while to get it to shoot. I'm sure I'll have some freebore after several hundred rounds. I bought 1000 of the 35 gr. bergers on sale at midway. I'd like to get the heavier bergers to shoot but I'll have to wait for a little throat erosion first. I think m...

vv133 and the 204 equals easy success

I bought a Pacnor barrel recently for a Savage target action. The barrel came with no freebore. I found that I was touching the lands with the base of the bullet below the neck/shoulder junction. I tried loads of benchmark and bl-c(2) with 32 gr. v-max bullets and benchmark with 35 gr. bergers. Ever...

Re: How often do you clean your brass?

I have the ultrasonic unit and used it after each firing. I find it interesting that since getting into competition Benchrest shooting, I no longer clean them at all. No one that I know in benchrest cleans their brass. We load the same set of brass between matches. We will shoot the same brass 10 ti...

I spoke with Rich and Penny at Pacnor and he said he didn't know he had a reamer that would cut it that way. He has two reamers and he is going to check them out. He said he would recut it if I want or I can try it and see if it shoots well and if it doesn't I can still send it back. The problem I s...

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to call Pac-nor this morning but I've heard some complaints about them not making good on this type of problem. We shall see. I won't shoot it until they say it's ok to do so and they will still take care of it if it proves to be a problem. I wish I had my own reame...

oal with stonypoint comparator (v-max bullets)

I have a new pacnor barrel in 204ruger. I seated vmax bullets out long and let the lands seat them. They came out at 1.920" with my stoneypoint comparator. They looked short. The rifling marks on the bullets were very distinct. I used my borescope to check the chamber and found that there is ze...

Barchart.com is a good source for commodities futures markets data. Energy commodities like oil, unleaded gas(RBOB), natural gas and the like are traded on the world market in a fashion similar to the stock market. Basically, prices seek a balance between those that are afraid prices will go down an...

Ah no go gauge, I see. My go gauge measures 1.539 at the shoulder and 1.550 at the datum line. It seems odd to me that your brass measures 1.539 at the datum line. That would seem to mean that you have a short chamber or the spring back is like .012. I don't think there's anything wrong with your ri...

That's really odd Rick the 330 datum should be a good bit longer. Have you checked your go gauge with the 330 gauge yet?

jo191145-
That is an excellent idea except I didn't get 40 winchester bucks. That was the guy that started the thread on the other site. What was wrong with your 600 cases?

In checking my handloaders manual of cartridge conversions, I see that the shoulder is supposed to be 1.5386 and have a diameter of .3599. This means that at the .330 datum line the length would be longer than 1.539. Is your drawing indicating the shoulder or the datum line as being 1.539?
