Question for anyone that lives in the lower half of Ill.
Is it easy gain permission from land owners to hunt? Or is it all leased out to outfitters? Me and of guy at work were talking about some of the best states to live in to hunt and Ill. came up.

Re: Skippy's real name in your area???
In Virginia, I just call them ground hogs (whistle pigs). Depending on the weather, I can see them out at anytime during the year. I plugged one with my bow late last October while deer hunting.

I can't make up my mind on a hunting trip.
At first I thought about taking a long weekend and flying out to Wyoming next spring to hunt p.dogs. But am now thinking of going on a boar (not ferral hogs) hunt this winter instead. 3 day 3 boar hunt. Also it is a pulic land hunt, no fences.

What can anyone tell me about the "High Standard" brand.
I saw a couple of 1911s today that looked pretty good. The others I saw were "Rock Island" and Springfield armory. Can anyone give me some info. on the other 2 as well?

Hunting a new farm
I went out the other day to hunt a new farm for some groundhogs. I took my 204 of course. Since I had never hunted here before, I really didn't know where to set up. The hard thing was trying to find enough area to look over. The way the land lays, it's like sitting at the top of a ball and trying t...

I have seen one a few times in a front yard on the way home from work. I can't believe it has not been hit yet.

Varmint Nightmare Extreme bullets
Anyone ever use these? I saw them at midsouth shooting supply. 34 grn. HP 500 count for $37+-. Who makes them, and are they better than the midway brand bullets?

Re: Anyone had experience with a Barska ???
I held up one at a Gander Mtn. store. On max power I could not clearly see head mounts on the wall across the store with the Barska. The worst scope I have ever seen. There are much better "cheap" scopes out there. Konus makes a great scope at a great price. I had a 6-24x on a 220 swift. V...

Re: Ruger 10/22 LR I need to Improve Accuracy
I am thinking that if it is 34 years old then it has sent more than a box or two of ammo down the pipe. I would say give the barrel a good scrubbing and see if that helps. If not, there are a lot of barrel/stock combos and probably a trigger for cheap. I would start with the trigger and work out.

I have a question about a load velosity.
Can anyone tell me what velocity they are getting with 39grn sierras with 27.5+or- grn. of h4895? I don't have a chrono, and I think the load data is a bit on the conevative side.

Re: How do I sight in my new rifle?
If you are going to use target turrets on your scope to dial in every shot I would go dead-on at 100yds. If you don't move the dials at all after sighting in then I would go 1.25"-1.5" high at 100yds. Like the guy said, it's like a laser. 1.5" high will put you in the money for any sh...
Re: 17 HM2
I read that on grey squirrels and rabbits it does too much damage to really salvage any meat. That said, I guess if you only do head shots it may work out better.

Re: 17 HMR and PD's
I don't know if it's the new trigger, but it feels pretty ok. I shot it for the first time the other day. Man what a blast . Easily under an inch at 100yds. I just have to remember it aint the 04, so don't be too demanding.
