270WSM or 308?

Would a 270WSM be a better cartridge than the 308 for elk? Im compairing the 150gr TTSX in the 308 to the 140gr TTSX in the 270WSM. If not, any other options without going to the other high recoiling  mags?
Thanks

Re: Question for Rick in Oregon

Well, the Barnes 140gr XPB worked out great in my 357 Herrett. With a velocity of just over 2200fps I shot a 100 yard 5 shot group of just under 2-3/4" center to center and 1 of the shots was a flyer and ruined a nice 1-3/4" 4 shot group. Not bad with just a 2x scope! I'm sure with s...

Re: Our Canadian members will like this..........

I heard about that a couple of days ago since I'm only 90 min or so from Toronto. It's nice to see someone stand up to these @$$ hats! Hit um where it hurts, in the pocket book! :D

Re: 308 loads with h4895

In my Savage SS pencil barrel 1 in 10 twist I have a load of 48.6gr H4895, 125gr Sierra SP fired by a CCI BR-2 primer. Shoots about 3/4" @100yds and 3100 fps

Question for Rick in Oregon

Since we where on the topic of hunting with Barnes bullets, I was wondering if you could answer a question for me. I have a TC contender in .357 Herrett with 14" bbl. I'm planning on working up a load for 140gr bullets (which this cartridge was designed around) for deer hunting. While poking ar...

Re: Barnes 150 or 165gr TSX for elk

Thanks for all the info guys.
Rick in Oregon, Is there a big difference between the TSX and the tipped TSX? Is the bullet construction different or is the tipped TSX just a regular TSX with a plastic tip? :chin:

Re: Barnes 150 or 165gr TSX for elk

acloco, I know it's not the best caliber for elk but it's what I have. I will be practicing out to 300 yards at my brothers (Hawkeye Joe) gun club. I will just limit my shots to under 300 yards. According to the Barnes website I should be able to push the 150gr tsx to about 2850fps.

Barnes 150 or 165gr TSX for elk

The possibility of an elk hunt is in the future. I'm shooting a .308 Win and can't decide what bullet to pick. Should I go for the vel of the 150 or a little more weight (energy) of the 165. Also, I know it's a little overkill but how well will they work on whitetails? Or am I just better off with m...

Re: 30gr Berger

The 35s should be better. The best groups I could get wit the 30s was right around 1" but can get more consistancy and 1/2" groups with the 35s.

With any luck ...and decent shooting you will not need to shoot a group at a coyote. Groups of one count when hunting.
I guess that would be a 1 hole group! :lmao:

Shooting for groups under hunting conditions.

Has anybody shot for groups off the bench with shooting sticks or on the bench with only a front rest? I did and my groups went from about .500" to just over 1" @ 100 yards. I always see groups shot off bags but none under hunting conditions. :chin: Anyone care to share some? You can't tak...
