Re: Gunnison p-dogs are hibernating

Weather will have to cooperate before we will even have a chance. Its been ok down there but the weekend could be kinda rough. Great if you're deer hunting but it won't bring the dogs up. A buddy of mine from the gym just bought a new 22-250 so we are going to dial it in ...weather permitting and i ...

Re: Gunnison p-dogs are hibernating

AH - Those Arizona prairie dogs must have thin skin. Our CO BT prairie dogs will hang out all winter long as the sun is out.

Jimmy - goin to the farm tomorrow night to spend a few days, maybe shoot a deer, sight in a buddies rifle and shoot some winter pds if they cooperate.

Re: Bullet stuck in barrel

I have seen this done with a pistol... TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK . Out shooting with some friends that have a ton more knowledge than I do about all things that are guns, one of there handguns got a bullet stuck in the barrel and they took the bullet out of another loaded round, put kleenex tissue in th...

Re: 20 cal varmint grenade

Rick - I am sure others have had much better luck with them than I and as with all bullets they can be picky about how they are launched. I thought about trying some of my remaining VGs in my 22-250 AI ....no doubt it will send them out in a hurry. My problem with the VGs I tried on a pd shoot was t...

Re: 20 cal varmint grenade

Point of fact, no myth, the ballistic coifficient is poor at best. .149 is not condusive to 'long range' and doesn't compare well with BCs running closer to .250. No matter how fast they start they still drop quickly. You can launch a mattress at 4000 fps but it won't go far. I tried the .22 cal VGs...

Re: Barrel burnout

I have a SS Shilen tube that has 2700 rds. thru it. Without a borescope it is tough to tell but nearly as I can see it...it looks like the day I bought it. It definitely shoots the same. I have had it warmed up pretty good on hot days with lots of pds out. Haven't shot a group with it in over a year...

Re: 20 cal varmint grenade

They better work on it. If their 20 cal. bullets have a BC similar to their .22 cal VG bullets I don't expect much. Currently their .22 cal VGs are getting bashed all over the gun forums. They have a crappy BC, over priced, not nearly as accurate as the Vmax/BK s and generally haven't fared well.

Re: My sons first elk hunt starts Sat.

Nice Rifle you provided your son! Great looking country you took him too. Good Job Dad! Great shot on a very nice Elk! Congradulations on a job well done. My son lucked right into a very nice collection of guns. Several years back our home was burglarized, they took lots of guns but we had full rep...

Re: My sons first elk hunt starts Sat.

Lyle - I already solicited the family for extra freezer space. At the processors (Steves Meats) ready to cut his elk was 260 lbs. My freezer isn't going to handle that with the two existing antelope.

I will post pics I just need to shrink them down a bit for Hunt 101.

Re: My sons first elk hunt starts Sat.

Son scored Sunday morning on a very large cow elk in what turned out to be a fantastic weekend for us. We had a game plan for Saturday morning that was good but put us on the wrong side of the wind and sunrise. Sunday morning we made corrections for that and he got her right at sunrise. She would go...

Re: 1st PD Shoot

The first time I shot a prairie dog back in the 1950s was with a Rem Mdl. 121 22LR w/a side mount Weaver 4X scope . That little slide action 22 LR was good for shots out to about 75 Yds. Back then one land owner would pay me 5 cents for each prairie dog that dident get back into their hole. Very fe...

My sons first elk hunt starts Sat.

I have the truck ready to go, son is ready to go and all I have to do now is get thru the day. I am taking/guiding my son on his first ever elk hunt for the next week. We will be hunting the Sangre De Cristo Mtns. Range in southern CO and there is no more beautiful place on earth. Our mission is to ...
