Re: Coyotes have a tough weekend on the prairie
Jimmy - it was the nicest weather a person could ever ask for in CO, in Jan on the prairie. It was high teens in the morning and between 40 and 60 during the day. Bright and sunny afternoons. It would have been a perfect prairie dogs outting but I had a different hunt in mind. Drove past thousands o...

Re: Coyotes have a tough weekend on the prairie
Actually the barrel pictured is a factory blued job. I wrapped it in that 'stick to itself vet tape'. Leaves no sticky crap on the metal and pulls right off. Doesn't stick to anything but itself. The MGM barrel is custom cut to have the same chamber dimensions as my sons factory barrel. One large ba...

Coyotes have a tough weekend on the prairie
I started out this last weekend, know ing I was going to have really nice weather for a prairie dog shoot. Leisurely taking my time shooting and just being glad I was out of town. Once I got out to the farm on Friday night I had changed my mind and decided I was committing to a weekend of strictly c...

Re: Skippy's real name in your area???
Although they are technically called prairie dogs before we shoot. As the bullet makes contact their field names change to such old family favorites as -
flipper
spinner
buddha
scatter
hook shot
chip
drive
top spin
back spin
prairie funa
bird food...etc.

Re: Skippy's real name in your area???
We call them black tailed prairie dogs for the most part. The tree huggers call them the 'lynch pin of the prairie'. Quite by accident I basically fell into a fantastic place to shoot them. I was invited out to the farm for a deer hunt back in 1997. Got there a day early, went to my brother in laws ...

You mean the 'burr bit' took the 'burr off'. Imagine that.......

Re: Is it just me, or has anyone else.....
Pretty obvious to me that the inside edge of the bullet seating stem has a sharp edge. It is cutting the bullet. (Burr in machinists world)

There is nothing about that picture that makes me think good things about
Forester dies. Even junior high school metal shop 101 would teach one to knock off the burrs and finish the edges...apparently at Forester the machinist missed burr day.

Re: prairie dog combo
Alright I get with the camera man about some photos. I figure I'm am doing pretty good to remember ammo, rifles, rests etc. To be honest a short video of one particular shot would have been especially good. Seems my buddy shooting his 22-250 and some Vmaxs hit one pd in the neck, about 150 yds out. ...

prairie dog combo
Been a while since I posted anything here...seems my password kept getting dumped. Must be a 'puter thing. Spent last week out on the farm scouting for my antelope and shooting a couple hundred prairie dogs. Took a buddy out and once we got the windage thing worked out we were "curve ballin&quo...

Re: CO prairie rats (prelude)
I've been forced to listen to tales of ray and rick and rod on sunny days afield, thinning the prairie rat herd and reaping the fruits of labor from these guns we put so much into. It's more than a little annoying, I tell you, although I would be hard pressed to skip over such a thread. It seems li...

Re: Co. PD Shoot Pictures
joghotrod - this is what I posted on another site regarding our little adventure. Trip was a good one. Shot alot of dogs, in fact jodhotrod is still there shooting today. I came back yesterday for work today. We did deal with some pretty strong winds at times and that made the hits more difficult. I...
