Another .204 coyote and my first kill with my new .17hmr
I went out for a long day yesterday, hoping to hit my 4 secret open country spots. I called in 3 coyotes on Tuesday in the woods each coming in seperate, and I didn't get a chance to shoot any of them because of all the brush so I was anxious for some sage and bitter brush as opposed to pines and fi...

Those mountains are Washington, Black Butte, and 3 Sisters. (cascades)
I've done my fair share of tromping through the strawberries though. My cousin's ranch property borders a section of the Strawberry Mt. Wilderness. Some nice bulls in there.

Nice fox Adam. How far was he?
I love the rush/butterflies I get when an animal comes in. It's the best part. I don't think non-hunters realize what an adrenaline rush it is when you have something in the crosshairs.

Welcome jdfranzen.
Don't worry about feeling like you don't have any great wisdom to bestow upon us. There's lots of us here like that. This is a great place to just sit back and listen/learn from the pro's.

Re: Desert Coyote
walleyeman : Shot placement was typical as he was broadside so the entry was similar placement to the exit that you can see. I've shot 6 coyotes with the vmax, and all but 1 have had large exits. One was definately my fault as I shot it in the neck (It was either that or the head). However, the oth...

Desert Coyote
I spent most of the morning driving to try to get to some premium coyote calling country. I had time for 6 stands, and the third one was the only productive one. I was hoping to see a couple more dogs, but I'll take the one. He didn't come in until I had been calling for 20-25 minutes. He must have ...

Re: Cougar rug
Well, here goes the story as best as I can remember. My buddy and I had scheduled a day to go and find some coyotes to blast, but when the day came the weather was far less than desirable. It was raining when we left the house, and barely cold enough to snow by the time we got out towards the desert...

Re: Mystery ?
At that range could the bullet have been a little low, and then gravel or shrapnel from the bullet hitting the ground my have knocked the little bugger silly?
Just a thought.

Re: Got my first coyote yesterday evening!!!!
Nice shootin NC. Those close range ones are fun. As far as whether or not to go back, that is a tough one to answer. Seems like I would rest the area for a week or so, but that isn't to say you might get another one if you went back right away. Every area is different. If you are the only hunting pr...

Re: Long Aussie outback adventure story
Great story and pics. Very interesting to get a glimpse of the outback there.
Totally understand the need to take out feral animals. Just cause their cute doesn't mean they should be there.
Can't say I've ever seen the results of a camel hunt before.
Thanks for taking the time to share!!!

Re: 45 gr Hornady factory load
Haven't tried em yet, but I will be interested to know how they work for you. Seems like they should hold up better than some of the lighter bullets. But for pelts, they might be a little much on bobcats if you are real picky, and for lions the .204 seems a little small. It doesn't take much if you ...

Elk Hunt Report
Well I'm happy to say I had a great time elk hunting. Yet sorry to say I won't have any elk meat in the freezer this year. It was a "hair tag" for elk with a muzzleloader. Unfortunately we only had one small snow and snow is a great asset in locating the elk. The day before it snowed, it w...

Nice hunting Melvin. Sounds like you get a lot of tags for one year. Must be nice.
Thanks for posting pictures, and good luck in your upcoming hunts.

It's officially coyote season again.
Well my elk season ended last weekend with no elk, and I've been making myself wait to start getting serious about calling predators until that was over. So this afternoon I went down to my "honey hole" and set up with my foxpro. It was snowing big flakes and the wind was blowing a little,...
