Re: Got some more chucks

Hey Capt, is there any way to join the E.O.R.F.S? Wish I could go out one of these times with you guys, sounds like a good time.

Got some more chucks

My dad and I took a friend out shooting rockchucks on Saturday. Tanner had let me shoot his $4000 dollar rifle at an F-Class match last fall and has helped me out a lot on the long range stuff. We sighted in his rifle and headed off to a place that we know has 500+ shots for him. The first place we ...

Re: Rock chuck weight?

Biggest one we ever killed was 12.5 pounds. We should have had one that would have gone 15+ today, but after missing twice we checked the sights and we were way low. They are smart beggars though, they won't come back up after 2 shots.

Guy, I chuckled when I first read your post and thought that this guy is just joking or he is crazy. But then I read Steve's post and thought that you might actually be serious

Re: A few chucks

Yeah, that's what we think too. Anything in the double digits is a hog around here. We have also noticed that there aren't as many chucks in the middle of the day in the summer, big or small. We did gain access to a guys place that will have multiple double digits chucks that have ground to old age ...

Re: A few chucks

Thanks guys. Lenard: My dad shot a chuck a few years ago that was pretty dang big. 11.5 pounds, but we didn't measure it. http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q85/tt35/2007Varmints084.jpg I shot a chuck last year that was 12.5, but it wasn't near as big as his. http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q85/t...

Re: A few chucks

Thanks. I really like this .243 AI for long range work. Heck, even for short range work. And these 87 Vmaxs do a number on vermin. The one Gary hit at 484 looked like a squirrel shot with a 17 Hummer. I've seen some of those rockchucks in Bend, they do get to pretty good size, and they live a good l...

Re: First time groundhog shooting, tips please!

I guess we aren't quite as serious as some. We go out in our jeans and T-shirts, set a bench up next to our white Tacoma, or go prone next to it, and shoot. They don't seem to mind much. Even if we are under 200 yards. We don't stalk our chucks, we just shoot at them from where ever we are at. I gues...

A few chucks

Now that it is May, my dad and I and a friend went out and shot some rockchucks. The first two Gary shot with his 17 HMR at about 120 yards. I took the next one at 150 with my .243 AI, there wasn't much of its head left after that  Then we moved down to a pivot with rimrock surrounding it. My d...

Re: Leupold oopsie

Yep, Leupold CS is top notch. I've had them send me: New scope caps (lost one), new eyepiece for a spotting scope(fell from 5 feet), and check on a scope (there wasn't anything wrong with it evidently) and I had it back in a week and a half. I've also heard of guys poking at the reticles and breakin...

Re: 204 at 600 yards?

I've never shot the .204 out to 600, farthest yet has been 550. My dad did shoot his out to 700 to get the drop on his .204 and it was still stable at that range. The wind does really get frustrating if you have a lot of it and it's changing a lot. Once I got my .243 AI and loaded 87 Vmaxs it was li...

I haven't put in yet, but I'm going to put in for mule deer, both buck and doe, bull elk, speedgoats (wish me luck  ) and bighorn ( wish me more luck  )
